How big is a black bear?
An adult black bear can grow to be from 50
to 80 inches long, nose to tail, with male black bears being
larger than female black bears.
Black bear cubs and baby black bears
The number of black bear cubs in a black
bear litter is generally 2 in the western United States and 3
in the eastern United States. Parts of Pennsylvania have
excellent black bear habitat and a few black bear litters of 6
cubs have been reported there.
Black bear mating season
Mating Season for black bears are
generally between late May and early July.
Black bears parental instinct and caring
for young black bears and baby black bears
Black bear cubs usually stay with their
black bear mother for 17 months. Mother black bears
stop traveling with their black bear cubs when the black bear
mothers are ready to mate again.
Black bear hunting
In places where there is a large population
of black bears such as in Canada, black bear hunting is normal.
In British Columbia, there are about 140,000 black bears. In
Ontario, there are 75,000 - 100,000 black bears. Black bear
hunting has become somewhat popular among hunters.
